- ➤ Ekiben is set to open its first location outside Baltimore in Frederick, aiming for a March opening. The Asian fusion restaurant, named the fourth-best fried chicken spot by Yelp, will expand its offerings beyond its three existing Baltimore locations. The MoCo Show
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County’s only charter school, MECCA Business Learning Institute, is fighting to keep its doors open after its charter was recommended for revocation due to special education law issues and delayed hiring that led to low enrollment — a final decision will be made at the board meeting on Jan. 22. - ➤ The Education and Culture Committee meets Monday, Jan. 12 at 9:30 a.m. to get updates from MCPS on international enrollment and on the Antiracist Audit Action Plan for a new strategic plan. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools will host a community meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Summit Hall Elementary School from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for parents to preview its third quarter Refrigerator Curriculum + a follow-up session is scheduled on March 18 at Ritchie Park Elementary School. - ➤ Montgomery County officials announced a new Mesonet weather station installed in partnership with the University of Maryland to improve short term forecasts and emergency response. - ➤ The Montgomery County Commission for Women will host its 46th Annual Women’s Legislative Briefing on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 12:30 p.m. at The Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville; the public event will feature a keynote panel and breakout sessions addressing policies for women and girls.
