COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Ambassador Curtis A. Ward, known for his service on the UN Security Council and as Chair of the Maryland Caribbean Community Council, died Sunday night at his Montgomery County home. Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles will honor his legacy during the upcoming Caribbean Heritage Month celebration. The MoCo Show
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The Home Depot Design Center permanently closed on Jan. 14 at 12087 Rockville Pike in Montrose Crossing Shopping Center. It offered design consultations for kitchen + bath as well as flooring and appliance options and opened in 2020 in the former Golf Galaxy space. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Goodwill of Greater Washington is building a new retail store and donation center at Waters Village Shopping Center in Germantown and will open it this spring; the nonprofit also will take over a Rockville location formerly home to Planet Aid. The MoCo Show
- ➤ The new Dollar Tree store will open Sunday, Feb. 1, at 20906 Frederick Road (Suite A) in Germantown. It will replace the former Staples space as part of the retailer's expansion in Montgomery County. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Montgomery County will host its 31st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Observance and Birthday Celebration on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. at Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda — the free concert features local and nationally recognized artists and encourages donations for Interfaith Works shelters. - ➤ Gov. Wes Moore honored Montgomery County Police's autism and disability unit on Monday by presenting the Ethan Saylor Alliance Award for over 20 years of specialized training to improve police interactions with residents with developmental disabilities (including crisis response techniques). - ➤ Starting this season, MLB will produce Nationals local broadcasts on cable, satellite, and MLB.TV as Montgomery County native Alexa Datt joins the team as sideline reporter — details on channels and subscriptions will be announced soon. The MoCo Show
- ➤ The Baltimore Orioles’ Birdland Caravan will visit Montgomery County on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda - the free fan rally features player Q&A sessions, photo ops with mascots, games and kid-friendly activities before Spring Training.
