- ➤ Value City Furniture permanently closed its Rockville location at 12055 Rockville Pike in Montrose Crossing Shopping Center yesterday as part of a nationwide liquidation by American Signature Inc that began its going out of business sales on January 10. The MoCo Show
- ➤ New York-based Xi’an Famous Foods will open its first company-owned Maryland restaurant at Montrose Crossing in Rockville in Q2. The 1,718 sqft space next to RASA and Five Guys will bring its authentic Chinese dishes to the local community. The MoCo Show
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County officials and planners are hoping to revitalize the vacant 200-acre COMSAT site in Clarksburg with the new Gateway Sector Plan, aiming to attract a large company to spur economic growth. The plan meets long-standing goals to develop employment centers (a step toward change for the area). WTOP
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Families of autistic children raised concerns over MCPS's proposed special education staffing changes that could cut paraeducator support and autism services (part of the fiscal year 2027 budget plan), while district officials said essential supports remain in place. FOX 5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The MD 28 (Dickerson Road) bridge over the Monocacy River will be closed from 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18 for repairs after a truck struck it in Oct. 2024; drivers must use a detour via MD 85, MD 80, I-270 and MD 109. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Hallie Wells Middle School is deep cleaning its facilities after several students and staff reported gastrointestinal symptoms, including vomiting and stomach cramps.
