- ➤ On Feb. 2, Gaithersburg City Council will present an official proclamation designating February as Black History Month at City Hall — residents may attend in person or online while local arts advocate Jacki DuPuy is honored for her lasting contributions to community culture. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools explained that weather closures remain traditional snow days because not every student has a remote device, new semester courses need a smooth start, and there is no state-approved virtual plan — officials said they will announce any change if virtual learning becomes available. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The National Weather Service warns drivers and pedestrians today to watch for black ice in the area. Officials reported hazardous conditions on roads and sidewalks this morning and expect the risk to continue as long as temperatures stay near freezing. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Excavation is underway to repair the collapsed 72-inch sewer line on Clara Barton Parkway near the I-495 interchange, as teams assess damage and use eight pumps to divert wastewater. DC Water says E. coli levels have spiked after nearly 300 million gallons of raw sewage reached the Potomac River. The MoCo Show
