  • Johns Hopkins Children’s Center reports more serious head injuries from sledding accidents today + doctors advise parents to have children wear helmets and avoid obstacles on icy slopes.  WTOP

CULTURE NEWS

  • Montgomery County native Jay Diamondz will attend the Grammy Awards as a guest of Gemini Muziq later this week, preparing his look with a design team while crediting his local roots for shaping his work ethic.  The MoCo Show

  • Cara Marbury, a 2001 Magruder alumna, was named DCPS Outstanding Educator of the Year for the 2024-2025 school year. She has taught 16 years at Anne Beers Elementary School in Southeast Washington and built a strong reputation for supporting students + mentoring new teachers.  The MoCo Show

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DC Water reports that wastewater is no longer escaping from the damaged section of the Potomac Interceptor as crews begin excavations in Montgomery County to assess damage and plan permanent repairs. Officials are closely monitoring cleanup and weather challenges with multiple agencies involved.  Montgomery Community Media

  • Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman said residents can use her office’s website for tax filing assistance, while an updated unclaimed property system will speed returns & a tax-free weekend for energy-star appliances is set for Feb. 14-16.  WTOP
  • Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation selected SRI International to develop a new Economic Development Strategic Plan to boost local business innovation & workforce growth. Work begins immediately with a draft scheduled for review by Marc Elrich on July 31 and the plan set for Council review in early 2027.  The MoCo Show

  • Derwood native Alexa Datt is set to join the Washington Nationals TV broadcast team this season as a host and reporter. The former FanDuel Sports Network host — the first female Cardinals play-by-play announcer — is excited to cover her hometown team.  Montgomery Community Media
