BUSINESS NEWS

  • Twenty Montgomery County women who were laid off from federal jobs celebrated their graduation from the Founders Rising entrepreneurship program at Rockville Library, and they plan to launch new businesses with help from the Maryland Women’s Business Center.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Today, wellness-driven café chain Pura Vida Miami opens its first Maryland location at the former Colada Shop at 7993 Tuckerman Lane at Cabin John Village in Potomac (indoor seating and an outdoor patio are available) where guests will order at the counter and enjoy their meals.  The MoCo Show
  • Monkey’s Matcha, a new specialty matcha concept, opens inside Lil Cakes & Creamery at 488 N Frederick Ave in Gaithersburg Square on Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16 with a Buy One Get One special and a menu of four signature drinks.  The MoCo Show
  • Cycle Gear signed a lease to take over Party City’s former space at 1500 Rockville Pike in Rockville, bringing the nation’s largest motorcycle gear retailer to Montgomery County; an opening date has not yet been announced as construction is in its early stages.  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rapper J. Cole is driving through Silver Spring in his Civic, offering local fans a ride to listen to his final album, The Fall-Off. He planned to play disc 29 for the first two riders and disc 39 for the next, instructing fans to wait for his reply.  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery County officials are reviewing school safety measures after a student was shot at Thomas S. Wootton High School on Monday and plan to pilot a weapons detection system at three schools starting in March (officials are also considering whether to reinstate school resource officers).  WTOP
  • MCDOT eliminated Ride On fares for Learning Undefeated’s Emerging Leaders students, helping over 200 travelers reach Montgomery College labs and biotech employers since June 2025 + the transit expansion includes free Youth Cruiser SmarTrip cards to support STEM training and boost the county’s life sciences workforce.  The MoCo Show

  • Residents can report potholes by calling the right agency—DC 311 for D.C. roads, state highway services for Maryland roads, and VDOT for Virginia roads; Montgomery County residents should check the county map for the correct contact method.  WTOP
