BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Liquor Store at 866 Muddy Branch Rd closed Saturday, Feb. 14 for a four-month remodel—changing into Oak Barrel & Vine for a boutique spirit selection. Customers are advised to visit other county stores during the renovation.  The MoCo Show
  • Wild Bean Coffee has officially opened at 1532 Rockville Pike (the former UBREAKIFIX site across from Staples) and offers espresso drinks, matcha, smoothies, and grab-and-go items while operating daily from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maryland's General Assembly added a Legislative Muslim Caucus to address issues including school makeup days, with March 20 set for lost instruction despite overlapping with Eid al-Fitr. Zainab Chaudry (Maryland director of CAIR) said the decision sends a message that Islamic holidays are undervalued.  WTOP
  • The Montgomery County Commission on Aging honored three local organizations—Montgomery Connects, Holiday Park Seniors, Inc., and Maryland Senior Olympics—with the 2025 Austin Heyman Community for a Lifetime Award for their efforts in supporting older residents through digital access, social programs, and wellness activities across the county.  The MoCo Show

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) warned residents to avoid swimming or tubing in the Potomac River after a 72-inch section of the sewage interceptor in Montgomery County collapsed and released 200 million gallons of wastewater into a 72.5-mile stretch; drinking water remains safe.  FOX 5

  • Snow is still melting after last month's storm, so local real estate expert Corey Burr (of TTR Sotheby's) advises waiting until early March to list your home. He noted that better weather helps show properties and attracts multiple offers as buyer activity picks up with spring's arrival.  WTOP
