  • Corporate expansions and relocations fuel growth in the region as AstraZeneca announced a $2 billion investment to build a clinical facility in Gaithersburg and X-energy plans a 125,000 sqft headquarters. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rockville leaders sent a letter to Montgomery County Public Schools urging that Wootton High School remain at its current campus instead of moving to Gaithersburg's Crown High School—proposing temporary student shifts during renovations to manage overcrowding amid local housing growth, with board action on March 26.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Rhoshanda M. Pyles of Rockville High School has been named the 2026 winner of the Dr. Edward Shirley Award by Montgomery County Public Schools. The award will be presented at the MCAAP Summer Leadership Conference for her purposeful leadership and support for student success.  The MoCo Show

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Nearly a month after a 72-inch sewer pipe collapsed near the Clara Barton Parkway and spilled 243 million gallons of untreated sewage into the Potomac River, DC Water crews maintain bypass pumping while state officials monitor water safety — with health advisories and shellfish closures still in effect.  Montgomery Community Media

  • The Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection will hold a forum on consumer issues from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, March 5 at Rockville Memorial Library, 21 Maryland Ave. Residents will share concerns about scams, unfair contracts and housing issues + registration is required by Monday, March 2.  The MoCo Show
  • The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board’s 2025 Roadway Safety Study shows that fatal vehicle crashes have been rising since 2015 — speeding is involved in nearly one-third of fatal incidents, the report, presented on Wednesday, calls for enhanced local safety measures in inner suburbs and urban areas.  WTOP

HEALTH NEWS

  • Staff and customers at Montgomery County ABS stores raised over $110,000 for March of Dimes during a five-week Labor of Love campaign that ended on Dec. 31. The Olney Oak, Barrel and Vine store raised the most money & the funds will help maternal & infant health research.  Montgomery Community Media

  • Montgomery County natives Mike Rutenberg and Brian Fleury have earned NFL coordinator roles. Rutenberg will work with the Browns while Fleury is set to join the Seahawks (after years of coaching experience).  Montgomery Community Media
  • Montgomery County native Christian Marsh has been chosen by USA Gymnastics to join the commentary team for the Winter Cup in Louisville on Feb. 21-22. A Clarksburg High graduate who trained in Gaithersburg & competed at William & Mary, Marsh will share his gymnastics insight during the event.  The MoCo Show
