COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Registration is open for the 25th Annual Bike to Work Day on May 15 in the DMV area (organized by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association and Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ Commuter Connections program). 18,000 riders to visit a pit stop will receive a commemorative T-shirt and raffle entry.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center exceeded capacity for large dogs when it took in 29 new dogs between March 4 and March 6 and is now seeking adopters or foster volunteers by urging residents to adopt, foster, donate or help reunite lost pets (during open hours).  The MoCo Show

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse in Rockville was named on Eater DC’s March 2026 Best New Restaurants list; the restaurant opened on Dec. 28 and held a grand opening in January. It marks the brand’s first Maryland location + sixth in the US.  The MoCo Show
  • Guapo’s GO is moving closer to opening its new Gaithersburg location on Darnestown Road with a targeted debut in April, and the team has begun hiring ahead of its liquor license hearing on March 19.  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Frederick-Gaithersburg-Bethesda region was ranked 24 in the 10th annual Arts Vibrancy Index for 2025 by SMU DataArts, making it one of just 17 communities honored each year since 2015 (a decade of national recognition).  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MCPS is investigating air quality concerns at New Hampshire Estates Elementary after 16 students and 9 staff reported illness last month. The district replaced air filters and plans to install upgraded sensors – while PTA members call for transparency and prompt fixes.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Students from five MCPS schools advanced to the state finals of the Math, Engineering and Science Achievement program + they will compete on May 2 in Laurel with projects in math, science and engineering.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Montgomery County Public Schools answered community questions during a March 3 session about relocating Thomas S. Wootton High School to Crown Farm—officials stressed the school will not close and the current building remains an asset, with a final decision on capital projects set for the March 26 Board meeting.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maryland Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller reflected on her journey from India to Montgomery County and her effort to open doors for women ahead of International Women’s Day — her career has included appointing a 50% female state cabinet and fostering mentorship to boost local leadership.  Montgomery Community Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Maryland Department of Health said the Potomac River advisory in Montgomery County remains after a sewage spill on federal land due to elevated bacteria. Officials will continue testing until the water is safe; nearby counties have lifted advisories; shellfish closures may lift March 10 + drinking water is safe.  The MoCo Show

SPORTS NEWS

  • MCPS will end girls' gymnastics next school year due to facility and staffing issues, moving funds to a new STUNT sport at 13 schools. Coach Paula Shaibani of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School started a petition (with over 1,300 signatures) to preserve the program.  WTOP
