EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rockville families plan to contest a March 26 vote on the future of Thomas S. Wootton High School, which could redirect students to a new Gaithersburg campus if approved — they warned of legal action at a recent news conference.  WTOP
  • Montgomery County Public Schools is hosting the Superintendent's Shuffle on Saturday, April 11 at Bohrer Park. The event supports the 'Dine with Dignity' campaign to eliminate student meal debt, offering a competitive 5K, fun run, family run and virtual option with registration at $30 and check-in at 8:00 a.m.  The MoCo Show
  • Local foundation Theresa Sondra Jacobs (TSJ) uses Star Wars-themed droids to bring hands-on STEAM learning to students across the region. The group plans to take its mobile lab on the road to offer career exploration at schools, auto shows and community events.  WTOP

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Storms on Monday toppled trees and power lines and left thousands without power in parts of the DMV, including areas in Maryland. Crews are working through Tuesday morning to restore service while traffic delays and airport disruptions continue — affecting travel in the region.  FOX 5

FINANCE NEWS

  • With Tax Day set for April 15, Gaithersburg residents can file returns for free using Cash App’s self-serve online tool or the IRS Free File program offered by eight companies, and in-person help is available for lower-income filers and military members (users should opt out of data sharing for privacy).  WTOP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Council passed Bill 2-26 on March 17, 2026 to expand the Montgomery County Green Bank’s use of fuel-energy tax revenue for climate resilience projects (including drainage improvements and stormwater management) that help protect the community from flooding, extreme heat, and severe weather.  The MoCo Show
  • Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administration rejected more than 3,700 personalized plates in 2025 after reviews found profanity, intimate references, or misleading content, while D.C. rejected far fewer tags using an appeals process that returns the $100 fee.  WTOP
  • Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will host its first Colorectal Cancer Awareness Walk for Life on Friday, March 20 from 11 am to 1 pm at Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreational Park in Silver Spring. On-site registration starts at 10:30 am & participants will take a guided one-mile walk with health education materials.  The MoCo Show

HEALTH NEWS

  • A WalletHub report on doctors’ working conditions and pay found Maryland ranked 43rd overall (9th worst for doctors) even as physicians earn about $238,000 annually. The report used 19 metrics, including wages and hospital data, to assess the state’s performance.  The MoCo Show
