- ➤ A student-led nonprofit founded by Brianna Frank & her brother Brandon donated 621 pairs of shoes to nine schools & organizations in Montgomery County within its first month. The group plans to expand by distributing footwear to people experiencing homelessness in Washington, DC soon. The MoCo Show
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday, April 5, a fire on Prince Hall Court in Gaithersburg displaced a family after firefighters rescued six dogs while one dog died; all occupants escaped (uninjured) and the cause remains under investigation. The MoCo Show
- ➤ A child and two adults escaped a house fire on Sunday night in a Gaithersburg home on the 7700 block of Prince Hall Court when flames broke out behind a refrigerator; firefighters rescued four dogs and the family got help from the Red Cross as the cause remains under investigation. FOX 5

- ➤ Maryland ranked 4th best for working from home in a WalletHub report that measured affordability, internet cost, and remote work statistics — it also placed 7th for internet cost and 11th for household internet access. The MoCo Show
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County will host a free legal clinic on Saturday for lawful residents eligible for U.S. citizenship — local partners will offer eligibility screenings with pro-bono legal help and are compiling a waiting list for future clinics. WTOP
- ➤ Montgomery County has partnered with Leadership Montgomery for a new initiative to help local businesses adjust to federal rule changes. The effort includes a business conference and monthly training sessions (LEAD Forum: Business Resilience will be held April 30 at the Silver Spring Civic Building). The MoCo Show
- ➤ Montgomery County will open registration for its annual whiskey lotteries on Sunday, Apr. 12 so that eligible residents can bid for more than 900 rare bottles including Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year, Weller Millennium, and Michter’s 20 Year. Registration runs through Saturday, Apr. 18 with winners announced April 22 and bottle purchases from April 25 to May 23 (a third lottery for licensed establishments expands access), with proceeds benefiting county services. - ➤ Pepco submitted a proposal to launch a two-year pilot for a virtual power plant program under the DRIVE Act on customer devices like home batteries, EVs and smart thermostats to reduce grid demand plus control energy costs. A hearing is set for April 7 and 8. The MoCo Show
