- ➤ Rio Lakefront will kick off its summer season on May 2 with a family-friendly Season Opener at 10 a.m. featuring a carousel, paddleboats, and an artisan market on Grand Corner Avenue running May 2-3, while additional activities include scavenger hunts and musical performances along the boardwalk. - ➤ Montgomery County Agricultural Fair returns to Gaithersburg from August 14-22 and offers nine days of rides, food and competitions that include Monster Truck Madness, Red Eye Rodeo and Demolition Derby. - ➤ Sports Clips Haircuts will open a new location at 872 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg, returning after closing its Kentlands shop in 2024 + it previously served the area for 10 years and also operated at 488 N Frederick Ave. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Potomac Cookie Co. closed on April 7 at its Kentlands Square location on Market Street after serving luxury artisan cookies since May 2024; reopening plans remain unclear. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Plans have been filed for Royal Farms to open a third location at 397 Watkins Mill Road in Gaithersburg. The new site will cover 2.83 acres — divided into two lots with a convenience store and gas pump canopy on the primary lot. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation invites local middle school students to paint a county snowplow for the annual contest—registration runs through Friday, Apr. 10 and supplies are provided, with prizes of $500, $300, and $200 at stake. Montgomery Community Media
- ➤ Last week, over 150 community members gathered at the BlackRock Center for the Arts for a live mentor draft that paired student-athletes with mentees to launch SAMP’s fourth year (a free program promoting leadership, wellness, and community ties). - ➤ Maryland’s MOTORS program starts motorcycle safety classes April 16 in Gaithersburg. The free, 8-hour sessions offer classroom and on-road assessments provided by the Maryland Highway Safety Office and partnering police agencies, and are open to riders from neighboring states. WTOP

- ➤ The Montgomery County Council unanimously passed the Native Plant Protection Act on April 7 to ban the commercial sale of invasive running bamboo & promote sustainable landscaping on residential properties.
