BUSINESS NEWS

  • Roaming Rooster has begun its soft opening phase at its third Montgomery County restaurant at 8537 Georgia Ave in Downtown Silver Spring—the location that once housed Flip'd by IHOP. The restaurant will announce its grand opening plans next week and offers a $5 gift card with the MoCo Pass.  The MoCo Show
  • The office building at 805 King Farm Boulevard will be auctioned on April 18th at 3:00 PM at the Montgomery County Circuit Court in Rockville after the owner defaulted on a $38.5M loan—this six-story building has 240,000 square feet and parking for nearly 450 vehicles with an opening bid of $500,000.  The MoCo Show

CRIME NEWS

  • Ganignunt Felicia Aiemsakul vanished on March 4 at about 2:00 a.m. after leaving her ex-boyfriend's home in the Gaithersburg/Laytonsville area and has not been seen since—Montgomery County Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with information to come forward.  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MCPS is developing AI usage guidelines and is asking community members for feedback as it works to balance teaching benefits with concerns (including ethics, data privacy and equitable access) in the classroom and administrative processes.  The MoCo Show
  • On April 10, the Montgomery County Board of Education approved six administrative appointments, naming Mr. Francois C. Allen as deputy chief of financial oversight, Ms. Katheryne Morales as associate superintendent for emergent multilingual learners, Mrs. Angelina Filipova as director of management and budget, Mrs. Karla Lopez-Arias as principal of John F. Kennedy High School, Mrs. Catherine R. Guenthner as principal of Wyngate Elementary School + Mrs. Brooke Simon as principal of Lois P. Rockwell Elementary School.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County will offer low-cost adult bike classes in May and June at local sites — residents must pre-register online and pay $10 if not a member, with classes limited to 25 participants. Free adult e-scooter classes will also be available on a walk-up basis; today, one runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Upper County Recreation Center in Gaithersburg.  The MoCo Show
  • County Executive Marc Elrich announced that new laws have lowered prescription drug costs and strengthened road safety after a repeat offender targeted Sgt. Pat Kepp—while a $3 million incentive package will support reopening White’s Ferry once local property owners reach an agreement.  The MoCo Show
  • On Cinco de Mayo, MCDOT urges residents planning to drink to arrange safe transportation before celebrating. The SoberRide program — offered with Lyft and free for adults starting at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 5th until 4 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6th — and the Ride On bus service with 80 routes for $1 will help ensure safe travel home.  The MoCo Show

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Kareem's Lebanese Kitchen will take over the space formerly occupied by Bach to Rock—its previous tenant—at 212 Boardwalk Place on Gaithersburg's Rio Lakefront. The restaurant—known for its high ratings in Naples—will bring authentic Lebanese flavors to the local dining scene with an opening date yet to be set.  The MoCo Show
