- ➤ Historian Anthony Michael Cohen will begin his 750-mile FreedomWalk2026 on May 4, retracing Harriet Tubman’s route in honor of her legacy and the nation's 250th anniversary. - ➤ Permanent signage is up at Burlington’s future store at 19142 Montgomery Village Avenue in Montgomery Village. The retailer has a tentative opening on Friday, June 26 after January permits of $900,000 were issued and Big Lots closed in March 2025. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Saints Row Brewing (15 Fulks Corner Avenue) will host MoCo LagerFest on April 18 as its final farewell before closing after more than eight years in business. The event will feature over 10 breweries, live music from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and food vendors. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Four-year-old Michael Girgis from Montgomery County will perform twice at Carnegie Hall on May 31 and July 14 and will also appear at the Montgomery County Music Teacher Association Recital on April 25 and Elena’s Studio Annual Spring Recital on May 18. The MoCo Show

- ➤ American Rivers designated the Potomac River as the nation’s most endangered river after January’s sewage spill and rising data center development. Local advocates urge stricter monitoring and infrastructure funding (to protect water quality in the region). WTOP

- ➤ On Tuesday, the U.S. House approved renaming the Olney Post Office in honor of Sergeant Edward Lawrence Ramsey — a veteran and longtime postal worker who died in 2022. The bill now moves to the Senate before it heads to the President. Montgomery Community Media
- ➤ Montgomery Parks received over $6 million in funding from the State of Maryland to improve seven parks and expand solar power at park facilities in Montgomery County. - ➤ Maryland named the megalodon its official state shark after the legislature approved the bill and Gov. Wes Moore signed it on Apr. 14, making the state the first to choose a state shark. The law will take effect on Oct. 1. FOX 5
