- ➤ The Montgomery County community has rallied to support Osbelia 'Peaches' Minh’s family through a GoFundMe fundraiser after she died in a crash Sunday night when her 2022 Kia Telluride struck a utility pole at 10:41 p.m.—police confirmed the fatal accident occurred near Silver Spring. - ➤ Montgomery County Road Runners Club’s Pike’s Peek 10K race will take place on April 27th from 7:50 a.m. to 10 a.m., causing road closures on Redland Road and detours on Rockville Pike as runners begin at Shady Grove Metro Station and finish near Pike and Rose in North Bethesda (drivers should plan alternative routes during the event). - ➤ Cuppa Tea announced its soft opening today at 838 Rockville Pike—the spot that housed Tea-Do X Mochinut until it closed last October. The restaurant, which debuted at 1112 Taft Street, will serve Hong Kong-style milk tea and may include additional Taiwanese dishes. The MoCo Show
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A new report found that Maryland households could save an average of $546 a year on electric bills from 2025 to 2040 if the regional grid operator speeds up approval for energy projects. The study warned that without reforms bills would grow 60% by 2036 — and lawmakers have pushed for quicker project approvals to help ratepayers. WTOP

- ➤ Briggs Chaney Middle School celebrated Literacy Day when 100 students were published in the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans and 16 shared their original poems at the school event. - ➤ On April 10, Mayor Jud Ashman and the City Council held the 2025 State of the City address at Asbury Methodist Village’s Rosborough Cultural Arts and Wellness Center with over 140 guests, including civic partners (city boards, commissions and community leaders). The event presented awards to the Veterinary Service Team of Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center and to Carnegie at Washingtonian Center, and Gaithersburg Planning Commission Chair John Bauer was named Distinguished Resident (an annual honor). - ➤ Montgomery County buses will offer free rides Tuesday, April 22 for Earth Day on all county-operated services, and county executive Marc Elrich urged residents to take public transit + reduce carbon emissions. Montgomery Community Media
- ➤ Activists in Montgomery County have vowed to keep pushing for a Good Cause Eviction law that would require landlords to have a valid reason before evicting tenants. Councilmember Kristin Mink and Renters Alliance leader Matt Losak say the continued fight is needed to protect renters as more residents rely on rental housing—making the law a key issue in local housing discussions.
