- ➤ MCDOT is hosting a free Safety Day on Saturday, May 9 from 11am to 3pm at 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville + local high school students lead interactive demos on driver, bike, and pedestrian safety while free shuttles run and a rain date is set for May 16. The MoCo Show
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 24, MCPS received a $6 million Maryland Grow Your Own Educators grant to fund teacher apprenticeship programs and pathways in partnership with Towson University, Notre Dame of Maryland University, and local employee associations; the initiative covers tuition+fees while allowing staff to maintain pay and benefits. - ➤ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School notified families Friday after an unknown substance in a student locker was confirmed to be sugar (officials stressed safety and urged students to report unusual items). The MoCo Show
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Traffic will slow on Route 355 on Sunday, Apr. 26 during Pike’s Peek 10K. Road closures run from 6:30 a.m. to noon with one northbound lane open between Pike and Rose (only) and all southbound lanes available without left turns. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Maryland approved girls' flag football as a varsity high school sport starting in fall 2026. The state championships will be held at M&T Bank Stadium in mid-November, following practices beginning Aug. 12 and growing participation since the sport started in 2023. FOX 5
