CRIME NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich delivered his State of the County address detailing a revised FY26 budget that raises the income tax rate from 3.2% to 3.3% to generate between $70 and $80 million and avoid cuts to schools and services while canceling a planned property tax increase. He vetoed Bill 2-25 because it would give developers a 20-year tax break for converting commercial buildings to rental housing (a move he said would harm essential county funding).  The MoCo Show
  • Attorney General Anthony Brown and attorneys general from 19 states filed a lawsuit on April 25 to block the Education Department’s new funding conditions—if state agencies do not change programs that help all students, their kindergarten through 12th grade funds could be cut. Maryland says the rule breaks federal law and threatens support for special education and low-income student programs.  The MoCo Show

SPORTS NEWS

  • Montgomery Village native Kaden Prather was drafted with the 24th pick in the 7th round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. The University of Maryland standout and Northwest High School product impressed with key plays during his college career.  The MoCo Show
