- ➤ At Rio Lakefront, J.Crew Factory will soon open in the former Finewine.com space at 20 Grand Corner Ave. while Kareem’s Lebanese Kitchen starts construction at 212 Boardwalk Place. Today the center celebrates its Season Opener from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with family activities + an artisan market. The MoCo Show
- ➤ In March 2012, Montgomery County officers recalled when Maryland businessman Lenny B. Robinson, driving a black Lamborghini with a Batman logo plate, was pulled over while on his way to visit sick children; his legacy as Baltimore Batman endures after his fatal accident in 2015. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Burtonsville resident Hien Tram earned Maryland’s highest fishing honor as the 30th master angler when the Department of Natural Resources recognized him on April 28 for catching 10 trophy fish species (including a 49-inch red drum). Montgomery Community Media
- ➤ FOX 5 will kick off its annual Zip Trip season in Montgomery County with the first stop in Gaithersburg on May 22. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Bobapop, the bubble tea brand, is expanding in Montgomery County with a new store planned at Aspen Hill Shopping Center on Connecticut Avenue near Five Below. Construction will begin within the next few weeks as the company grows its local presence. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Crumbl Cookies will permanently close its Germantown store at 20650 Seneca Meadows Pkwy today; the national chain opened its first MoCo location at Federal Plaza in Rockville in 2020 plus has another branch in Kentlands. The MoCo Show
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Montgomery County Board of Education approved a revised 2026-2027 school calendar after feedback from 30,000+ survey responses. The schedule keeps a late-August start with Transition Day on Aug. 24 and the first full day on Aug. 25 and includes 181 instructional days with built-in weather make-up options. The MoCo Show
- ➤ The Montgomery County Board of Education voted 6-2 to close Germantown’s MECCA Business Learning Institute by June 30 due to special education, staffing and financial concerns. Some board members urged more time for progress, but most individualized education programs have not met compliance since November 2025. Montgomery Community Media

- ➤ Montgomery County reported a 26% drop in homelessness after 1,117 people were counted on Feb. 4 — a decline attributed to extreme cold and programs like SHARP, even as chronic homelessness saw a slight rise. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Emergency rooms in the region are seeing the highest tick bite visits since 2017, and MedStar Health advises Gaithersburg residents to treat clothing with permethrin and check for ticks (a key step to lower Lyme disease risk) after outdoor time. WTOP
