The Montgomery County Board of Education approved a revised 2026-2027 school calendar after feedback from 30,000+ survey responses.

The schedule keeps a late-August start with Transition Day on Aug. 24 and the first full day on Aug. 25 and includes 181 instructional days with built-in weather make-up options.

The Montgomery County Board of Education voted 6-2 to close Germantown’s MECCA Business Learning Institute by June 30 due to special education, staffing and financial concerns.

Some board members urged more time for progress, but most individualized education programs have not met compliance since November 2025.

Montgomery County reported a 26% drop in homelessness after 1,117 people were counted on Feb.
