CRIME NEWS
- ➤ ICE indicted Gaithersburg resident Eric Tano Tataw for allegedly raising over $110,000 to fund separatist militias in Cameroon—he is accused of using social media to call for violent attacks on civilians. The MoCo Show
- ➤ A Gaithersburg man, 31-year-old Alex Alexander, was fatally shot early May 3 at about 12:23 a.m. in southeast Washington, D.C when officers responded to a shooting on the 500 block of Newcomb Street (the case is under investigation). The MoCo Show
- ➤ Montgomery County Police arrested a second suspect in the Montgomery Village homicide case when he voluntarily surrendered on May 4 and he was charged with first-degree murder. The MoCo Show
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Delegate Marc Korman provided an update on the MD 355 resurfacing project in Montgomery County, noting that rain delays and extended work to fix deteriorating asphalt have moved the finish to May 16—weather permitting. Construction runs on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Montgomery County celebrated 50 years of its Ride On bus service in Wheaton on May 2 with local, state, and federal officials noting the system's role in connecting communities and promoting equity. County leaders said the nearly 200-bus service carried 65,000 riders on weekdays and outlined plans to expand rapid transit services in the future—demonstrating a commitment to investing in public transportation. - ➤ Maryland residents still needing a Real ID must act by May 7 for federal use, as Maryland MVA administrator Chrissy Nizer explained. Nizer said 99% now have the ID featuring a security-enhanced star (the marker of compliance) after decades of efforts following 9/11. WTOP
