- ➤ A slate of new businesses is set to open in Gaithersburg this spring and later in 2025 with AH’HAAN at 237 Kentlands Blvd launching as a full-service Thai restaurant in the space that once housed Good Fortune Cafe. Additional openings include a second Buffalo Wild Wings GO at Rock Grove Center, Kareem’s Lebanese Kitchen at Rio Lakefront, and Play Street Museum in Kentlands—updates will follow as details are confirmed—. - ➤ A 45-year-old man named Eugene Gligor pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Montgomery County Circuit Court for the 2001 homicide of Leslie Preer in Chevy Chase—he was identified in 2024 using forensic genetic genealogy and faces up to 30 years in prison with sentencing set for August 28 at 9 a.m. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Eugene Teodor Gligor, 44, pleaded guilty to the 2001 murder of Leslie Preer in Chevy Chase—solved through a DNA breakthrough last year. FOX 5
- ➤ Montgomery County Police warned residents about door-to-door home improvement scams and distraction thefts that target vulnerable homeowners by taking payment in advance and stealing valuables while distracting them; they advised verifying licenses, not paying large sums upfront, and keeping doors locked until work is completed. - ➤ Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg will host Lakefront Live with free salsa lessons, live music and a Best Dressed Contest on Friday, May 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. The series, starting with Salsa y Sunsets with Joe Falero, will feature outdoor dining and refreshments from Charley Prime Foods (9841 Washingtonian Blvd). - ➤ Montgomery County council members have proposed a bill to raise fines for for-profit house and pool parties from $500 to $5,000 because these events cause noise, traffic and crowding in neighborhoods — a public hearing on the bill is set for June 10. WTOP

- ➤ Six sports legends were inducted into the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday at Silver Spring Aquatic and Recreation Center (including Olympic gold medalist Thea LaFond and NFL player Bob Windsor).
