- ➤ A lawn mower accident injured a 5 year old boy named Gibson Rivera Theimer in Olney on May 10th and he lost his right foot while receiving treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital+his family has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to cover his extensive medical expenses+. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Andy’s Pizza plans to open a new restaurant in Gaithersburg at 145 Commerce Square Place in the Kentlands neighborhood—taking over the space once held by MOD Pizza, which closed in March 2024. No date has been set for the grand opening, and the company will announce details on its social media when ready. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Ice Cream Worx will soon open at 20215 Goshen Rd in Gaithersburg after taking over the former New Fashion Nails space in the Goshen Oaks shopping center. The restaurant will offer a diverse menu including hot dog boats, mac & cheese bowls, grilled cheese, Belgian waffles, crepes, chicken skewers and more, with additional details coming later. - ➤ Detectives from Montgomery County Police asked the public's help to locate 15-year-old Carmen Webb, who went missing near the 11500 block of Aldburg Way in Germantown on May 12 at about 2 a.m., and she is described as 5-foot, 3-inch tall, 120 lbs with brown hair, brown eyes, and she was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and white pajama pants while carrying a red drawstring backpack. - ➤ Bestselling humorist Dave Barry will present his new memoir 'Class Clown: The Memoirs of a Professional Wiseass' on May 17 at the free Gaithersburg Book Festival — he is set to speak at 1:15 p.m. and sign books at 2:15 p.m. at Bohrer Park on S. Frederick Ave while the event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Montgomery Community Media
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools will use stricter punishments for students who threaten violence in the coming school year. New guidelines raise bomb threats, teacher attacks, and theft of $500 or more to higher tiers — causing automatic suspension and possible expulsion while summer training for teachers and student orientation sessions will explain the changes. - ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools updated its cell phone policy for the upcoming school year by requiring elementary and middle school students to keep their devices off and away while allowing high school students to use them during lunch and between classes. Principals may permit phone use during class if it supports instruction, and students may use devices before and after school and on buses + those with disabilities will retain access under a revised code of conduct to be released this summer. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office — with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Montgomery County Legal Aid, and the Public Defender’s Office — is hosting a free expungement clinic on May 17 in Rockville to help eligible individuals begin clearing certain criminal records. Eligible people will get on-site legal help to start the process and should bring any paperwork they have, and the clinic will run from 10 a.m.—2 p.m. The MoCo Show
- ➤ The Gaithersburg Police Department said CSX rail construction will close Railroad Street until Friday—effective today—and that Chestnut Street and Summit Avenue will close on May 19-22 and June 11-13. Motorists should check alternative travel routes until the work is completed. The MoCo Show
