COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montgomery County Recreation is opening seven outdoor pools on Saturday, May 23 for pre-season hours until June 19 with special Memorial Day hours on Monday, May 25; full summer hours start June 20 + pools welcome families to stay safe and active.  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • Maryland’s newest state park—Freedman’s State Park—honored the Howard family’s legacy with a dedication ceremony held Friday. Visitors can hike from Elton Farm Road to view Greenbury’s House and other preserved landmarks.  WTOP
  • Montgomery History Center in Rockville is set to open Sept. 6 and include the Connie Chung Oral History Studio to capture local stories. The refurbished Farmers Banking and Trust Building will host exhibits, lectures and community events that highlight county heritage.  Montgomery Community Media
  • FOX 5 will launch its Summer 2026 Zip Trip Series in Gaithersburg on Friday, May 22, with a live broadcast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Rio Lakefront — in the Uncle Julio’s parking lot at 231 Rio Blvd that highlights local restaurants, businesses and community attractions.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County officials reported a Point-in-Time count on February 4 found 1,120 people experiencing homelessness, crediting expanded housing initiatives (SHaRP) that rehoused 325 families while noting rises in chronic and older adult homelessness. The report was released May 19.  The MoCo Show
  • County Executive Marc Elrich said police patrols have increased around mosques in Montgomery County ahead of Eid-al-Adha on May 27 after an attack on a San Diego mosque left three dead. Officials are working with faith and community leaders to keep worshipers safe and urge reporting of hate incidents.  The MoCo Show
  • Governor Wes Moore announced $56.8 million in energy efficiency grants Monday that will fund 127 projects statewide, and Montgomery County received over $8 million in awards to upgrade schools, government facilities, and nonprofits.  The MoCo Show

  • Tomorrow, May 21, Jimmy's Famous Seafood, named America's Best Crabcake by Food and Wine magazine, will be at the Casey Farmers Market in Gaithersburg behind the Casey Community Center at 810 South Frederick Avenue from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  The MoCo Show

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lt. Patrick Kepp competed over the weekend in the USA Warriors Sled Hockey Tournament at Rockville Ice Arena to support veterans. The event (fostering camaraderie) featured round robin games on Friday and Saturday and championship matches on Sunday for the USA Warriors Challenge Cup.  The MoCo Show
