CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A federal grand jury returned a superseding indictment charging Brendyn Andrew of Gaithersburg and Dominique Collins of Stafford with crimes including possession of unauthorized access devices, aggravated identity theft, passport fraud, and witness tampering — offenses dating from October 2022 through March 2025. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ 750 American flags will fly at Bohrer Park over Memorial Day weekend to honor local heroes in an event now in its 11th year. The event (organized by Rotary Clubs of Gaithersburg and Historic Emory Grove) will open with a celebration on May 24 at 11 a.m. and include a flag retirement ceremony (set for 6:30 p.m. on May 25) on Sunday. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown and 20 other attorneys general filed an amicus brief on May 20 urging the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to block the planned closure of three Department of Homeland Security oversight offices that provide civil rights and immigration services. They argued the closures exceed legal authority and will harm residents by delaying immigration benefits and reducing oversight of detention facilities. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass said his campaign for County Executive qualified for public financing by raising $40,000 from 500 county residents today. He launched his campaign two months ago and said the strong local support helped him reach this milestone quickly. The MoCo Show
- ➤ The City of Gaithersburg said that WRS, Inc. submitted final site plan applications SP-10031-2025 and SP-10084-2025 for the Lakeforest Project—Phase 1 covers storm drain work and reshaping a stormwater pond while Phase 2 plans new streets such as Lakeforest Blvd—with the plans under review and no public hearing scheduled, and comments may be mailed to 31 South Summit Avenue or emailed to [email protected].
