Tim Sweeney began Epic Games in Montgomery County when he started Potomac Computer Systems in a home basement with $4,000 and built the hit game ZZT + the company grew in Rockville before moving headquarters to North Carolina.

Montgomery County Public Schools approved a meal price increase on May 21, adding 30 cents next school year—a first change in over a decade.

The adjustment will not affect students who qualify for free meals (over 72,000 eligible) and aims to sustain meal quality and service.

Montgomery College remains eligible as a Hispanic-Serving Institution even though federal funding cuts have halted two local development grants.

The college will use local resources for bilingual counseling, faculty recruitment and culturally responsive curriculum to support its 29.8% Latino student body.

MCPS Superintendent Thomas Taylor proposed cutting over 400 jobs (including eliminating 295 school-based roles and college-career navigators) to address a $36 million funding gap after county funds fell short; board members will vote on the final budget on June 4.

Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services opens registration at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 1 for a whiskey sales event featuring 150+ sought-after bottles.

Winners will be posted on June 3, and bottle pickup is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10 at Gaithersburg Square Oak Barrel & Vine starting at 10 a.m.
