- ➤ A Gaithersburg man won a $50,000 prize on a Bonus Bingo X20 scratch-off ticket purchased at Lake Forest Exxon on North Frederick Avenue and claimed his win May 22 — he said he will use the money to pay off bills and save while continuing to play. The MoCo Show
- ➤ At an annual event hosted by Lead ‘Em Up on May 23, student-athletes were recognized for leadership, and four from Montgomery County (Kai Cooper, Nolan Ross, Justine Gumucio, and Jalen Marshall) earned free Chick-fil-A for a year. Coaches had a two-week window to nominate winners from over 40,000 participants. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Firefighters and paramedics visited 5-year-old Gibson Rivera Theimer in the hospital on May 22 as he recovers from a severe lawn mower accident on May 10 in Olney—his right leg was badly hurt and more than $57,000 has been raised to aid his recovery. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Montgomery County Police Department warned residents that fraudsters—using AI-generated voices to impersonate family members—called and tried to convince individuals to send money, so officials urged verifying the caller's identity with personal details. The MoCo Show
- ➤ A federal jury convicted a Virginia man and a Montgomery County woman of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and money laundering for defrauding a nonprofit focused on global public health by billing for work that was never performed — they face up to 20 years in prison when sentenced on Aug. 7. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On May 19, the Montgomery County Public Schools Educational Foundation awarded nearly 200 scholarships totaling $2 million, including $10,000 awards for 170 high-achieving seniors from 24 high schools. The Evening of Excellence celebration recognized students for leadership, community service, and financial need. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Montgomery County's African American Health Program will host its 11th Annual AAHP Community Day on May 31 at the Bioscience Education Center in Germantown, where free health screenings, workshops and youth activities are available for all residents.
