- ➤ Local Facebook group admins reported two scams on May 26th—one tripping members up with fake nostalgic shirts that steal credit card information and another using a story about a young entrepreneur to collect advance payments for services that never come; they say these fraudulent posts fool a few members before being removed. The warnings encourage users to be cautious when engaging with such posts. The MoCo Show
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Detectives from Montgomery County Police are asking for help finding Luis Cosme, an 88-year-old man last seen on May 25 at 2:30 p.m. on the 19100 block of Kinglet Place in Gaithersburg; he is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 150 lbs, has short gray hair, brown eyes and a light beard, and wore a black beanie, brown shirt, black coat, pink cane and dark pants, so anyone with information is urged to call the nonemergency number (301) 279-8000. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MCPS is inviting community members to join one-hour engagement sessions that review initial boundary study options for reopening Charles W. Woodward High School and plans for opening Crown High School and expanding Damascus High School. Virtual and in-person meetings are scheduled from today through early June to gather feedback from families. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Dr. Joshua Fine, principal of Flower Hill Elementary, was named the winner of the Mark Mann Excellence and Harmony Award by MCPS for his work in boosting literacy and community outreach in Gaithersburg—he was also celebrated as a finalist for The Washington Post’s Principal of the Year Award. - ➤ The Travilah White Oak, over 330 years old, stands at the Potomac Oak Shopping Center on Travilah Road and Glen Road and was measured in January 2021 at 19 feet 1 inch in circumference, 78 feet tall, and with a 110-foot crown spread. Friends of the Travilah Oak was formed in 1997 to protect the tree—after it faced removal plans in 1989—and it now hosts an annual fall celebration honoring its legacy. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center earned the Silver Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses after its ICU and PCU improved patient safety and staff retention in 2024.
