  • Pittsburgh-based Millie’s Ice Cream is preparing to open its first Maryland outlet in Gaithersburg’s Downtown Crown at 202 Ellington Blvd., in the space that The Crepe Shoppe vacated when it moved to 230 Crown Park Ave. An opening date has not yet been announced.  The MoCo Show
  • Indian Express has reopened under new ownership at 11315 Fern St. in Wheaton today with a refreshed interior that retains its family-style menu and customer favorites (including tandoori shrimp tikka) while keeping the same slow-cooked curries (per the unchanged kitchen).  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • Inferno Pizzeria Napoletana on Darnestown Road in Gaithersburg climbed to #20 on the 2026 50 Top Pizza USA list, marking its fifth consecutive year of improvement, while Baltimore’s Angeli’s also rose to #44 on the prestigious ranking.  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery County Public Schools emailed eligible employees offering a bonus if they retire by July 1; those submitting paperwork by June 5 can receive bonuses ($10,000 for 10-month roles, $12,000 for 12-month positions) while a retirement information session is today and a forms workshop is scheduled for June 3.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Students from Montgomery County built their 44th student-designed home at 12402 O’Fallon Street in Silver Spring. The house was unveiled on Tuesday, May 26 during a celebration and is set to be listed for $799K.  WTOP
  • Lauren Merillana, a 14-year-old speller from Robert Frost Middle School, advanced to the semifinals in last night's Scripps National Spelling Bee by correctly spelling licheny—her second time competing. Finals are set for 8 p.m. today.  Montgomery Community Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County police installed two bullet-resistant speed cameras at high-risk Burtonsville intersections on Tuesday as part of the Vision Zero program to lower crash rates; the cameras, painted by children on Take Your Child to Work Day, are among 140 battery-operated units placed countywide.  Montgomery Community Media
