ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Montgomery County police and fire rescue services responded at 8:35 a.m. Saturday to a two-vehicle crash on Sam Eig Highway and Fields Road in Gaithersburg— a Jeep Compass hit a Toyota Corolla, and one woman in the Toyota was taken to a hospital with minor injuries while her passenger suffered life-threatening injuries.  The MoCo Show
  • On May 31 at 7:54 p.m., a Montgomery County tanker collided in the 9500 block of River Road while heading to a large vehicle fire — hospitalizing one civilian and one firefighter — and traffic was diverted as the incident was investigated.  The MoCo Show

CRIME NEWS

  • Gaithersburg Police investigated a shooting and assault on Bureau Drive last night when four to six suspects attacked two men and recovered evidence of a shooting — both victims were treated at a local hospital for head injuries and the investigation remains active.  The MoCo Show
  • A tow truck driver said that five suspects fired 27 shots from 10 feet away at his vehicle on the 18000 block of Lost Knife Circle at 2:34 a.m. May 31—he was unharmed and police are still investigating the incident.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, new Maryland laws take effect that lower the compensation awards in child abuse cases and change energy pricing, which may lead to higher utility bills until rebate credits start later. Other laws delay paid family leave and require school safety reviews, and the state also named chromite its official mineral—while introducing a new official cocktail.  WTOP
  • Montgomery County will raise its minimum wage by 50 cents on July 1 so that large employers pay $17.65 per hour, mid-size employers pay $16, and small employers pay $15.50, giving workers about $20 more for every 40 hours worked. The increase follows a 2.9 percent rise in the consumer price index for the region.  The MoCo Show

  • U.S. News and World Report released its Best Places to Live list ranking 15 Maryland cities using data on population, commute times, home values and incomes. Gaithersburg is featured with a population of 69,711, a median home value of $512,970 and a monthly rent of $1,710—highlighting its local appeal.  The MoCo Show
