- ➤ Onekick Martial Arts is opening its second location at 255 Kentlands Blvd in Gaithersburg, taking over the space where Charm City Run closed in January. The school will offer classes for kids, teens and adults to meet local demand for training + build confidence among students + strengthen community ties. The MoCo Show
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to reports of smoke near Quince Orchard Road and I-270 on Sunday afternoon — firefighters accessed the scene through the Montgomery County Police impound lot on Metropolitan Grove Road to extinguish a fire at a homeless encampment. - ➤ On Saturday night at 8 p.m., a fire tanker rolled over while responding to a truck fire and crashed with a car on River Road in Potomac — both the tanker driver and the car driver were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the tanker driver was released on Sunday morning. - ➤ Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a vehicle fire involving a plumbing box truck at around 2:15 p.m. on Sunday on Olney Laytonsville Road at Fieldcrest Road in Gaithersburg—HazMat crews attended to address potential hazards including lithium-ion batteries and oxygen tanks. - ➤ More than 400 MCPS students were honored at Career Day at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg for earning industry certifications and scholarships in Automotive Trades and IT Foundations programs. Local industry leaders provided awards and advice to help students launch successful careers. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Last week, Montgomery College hosted Governor Wes Moore at its Rockville Campus to announce that MHEC will award $1 million in grants to support new career pathways for displaced federal workers — including $100,000 for expanding the ACET Flex: From Feds to Eds program to fast-track teaching careers. - ➤ Fara Moskowitz was named the 2025 MCPS Middle School Counselor of the Year. An MCPS alumna who started at Stone Mill Elementary and worked at Gaithersburg Middle School and Robert Frost Middle School, she is celebrated for ensuring every student has a trusted adult—an effort that shapes her daily work in education.
