  • Pike District Pop-Up Park will host free summer activities including a weekly Thursday concert series from June 5 featuring local artists, free Friday salsa nights with dance lessons from June 27 to September 26, and Saturday morning yoga classes starting June 7—all held behind the Montgomery County Conference Center with free two-hour parking in the garage.  The MoCo Show

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 8:35 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, Montgomery County Police responded to a crash on Sam Eig Highway and Fields Road in Gaithersburg—one passenger in a Toyota Corolla was critically injured while its driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and Fields Road was closed temporarily with traffic diverted.  Montgomery Community Media

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Twinbrook Quarter is a new 12 story tower on Rockville Pike that will soon house an 80,000 square foot Wegmans opening June 25 with about 400 employees. Several restaurants including Terra Gaucha, Genki Wagyu House, Molly Tea, ZiZa Kabob, Bonne Nail Bar, and Slurp Noodles will open in the development by late 2025 — offering a mix of cuisines for local patrons.  The MoCo Show

CRIME NEWS

  • Montgomery County police arrested an 18-year-old man from Burtonsville on charges of kidnapping+second-degree assault after he forced an adult woman into his car and shattered her window with a rock, causing minor injuries; he is now held without bond at the county's Central Processing Unit.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Montgomery County Police arrested 18-year-old Joel Akakpo on Monday after a kidnapping that began Sunday, June 1 in Fairland and continued into Prince George’s County—the arrest rescued an adult female who suffered minor injuries from forced entry and broken glass.  The MoCo Show

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications until June 30 for outdoor equity grants that offer funding from the Great Maryland Outdoors Act of 2022 to eligible groups to improve access to camping, fishing, and boating in underserved communities — projects designed to overcome various barriers.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County opened a new police station at Paramount Park Drive near the intersection of I-270 and Watkins Mill Road on Monday to serve Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village. The state-of-the-art facility houses investigative units, a large evidence room and a community room and will support up to 178 staff + volunteers while meeting the county's energy goals.  Montgomery Community Media
