- ➤ On June 6, a 70-foot pine tree fell on the Gaithersburg home of Ronnie Rodgers— a 17-year-old high school junior—leaving the house unsafe for his single mother and 8-year-old sister. The community has raised over $2,000 to help the family secure temporary housing. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police (Special Victims Investigations Division) are asking for help finding 16-year-old Xander Smith, who was last seen on June 11 near the 19100 block of Gunnerfield Lane in Germantown and is described as 6-foot, 2 inches tall with brown eyes, brown hair, and a birth mark on his right cheek; anyone with information should call the Police Non-Emergency Line at (301) 279-8000. - ➤ Four projects in Montgomery County received funding from the Maryland Board of Public Works under the Greenspace Equity Program to improve green spaces in underserved communities. The Reach Hub Urban Farm received $302,185 for sustainable farming education for nearly 18,000 students, while Dorothy’s Woods, Clarksburg Yard Community Open Space and a community garden at Wheaton Regional Park received funds to upgrade their local amenities — all designed to make public spaces healthier. - ➤ Local representatives are planning to update digital accessibility with new web guidelines ahead of the 35th anniversary of a law signed on July 26, 1990—meant to break down barriers for people with disabilities. WTOP
- ➤ While thousands will gather in downtown D.C. for the Army parade tomorrow, more than a dozen protest events will occur nearby—some in Maryland and Virginia—and include a capacity-limited demonstration at Muddy Branch Overpass in Gaithersburg by groups such as No Kings and Indivisible. FOX 5
- ➤ The Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee unanimously approved amendments to Expedited Bill 10-25, which gives displaced federal workers preferential hiring treatment after veterans and individuals with disabilities and removes the income loss requirement after a June 12 worksession with the Office of Human Resources (OHR). The committee will now recommend the bill to the full council, and eligible applicants must prove Montgomery County residency and that their termination was due to job elimination or layoffs starting January 1.
