- ➤ Kidcreate Studio is opening a new center at 12121 Darnestown Rd in Gaithersburg where children can join art classes, camps and birthday parties—marketed as Kidcreate Studio Rockville. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County police investigated an armed robbery that occurred at about 7 a.m. on June 5 at an Exxon on Rockville Pike—where a suspect described as a Black male in his 40s with a medium build, wearing a light scarf, black coat, blue jeans, and tan boots displayed a handgun, stole cash and property, and fled as police offer up to $10,000 for information. - ➤ Four men, including Walter Barnes of Potomac, pleaded guilty for their roles in a decade-long bribery scheme involving over $550 million in USAID contracts—Roderick Watson, a contracting officer, is alleged to have received over $1 million in bribes via cash, gifts and false invoices as companies shifted roles from subcontractors to prime contractors. - ➤ Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown announced on June 17th that all 55 attorneys general preliminarily agreed to a settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family — a deal that may bring over $90 million to Maryland if local governments join — as participation is still to be confirmed. - ➤ Montgomery County Council President Kate Stewart introduced Bill 21-25 today to expand child care property tax credit eligibility and raise the maximum credit from $3,000 to $10,000.
