COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Gaithersburg will host SummerFest at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm on Saturday, June 28 from 6 to 11 p.m., a free event with live music, food trucks, family activities and a fireworks display scheduled for about 9:20 p.m. City officials warn that traffic changes—including lane reductions on Route 355—will affect access to the area. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On June 18th early in the morning, Montgomery County Police responded near the intersection of Frederick Road and Indianola Drive in Rockville when a hit-and-run struck and killed an adult male pedestrian and the driver of a white Honda Accord was quickly apprehended near Frederick Road—Shady Grove Road. - ➤ Timothy Pack, 22, received a 15-year prison sentence for gross negligent manslaughter, second-degree assault and failure to render aid after he drove over 110 mph on Route 355 near Federal Plaza in Rockville—killing 25-year-old Jasmin Gimon and injuring his passenger when he fled the scene. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County awarded $304K to six community organizations to help over 8,000 local families access nutrition benefits like SNAP—boosting support for food-insecure households. The funding will expand outreach efforts so that more residents receive benefits such as WIC, SUN Bucks, and the Farmers Market Nutrition Program. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Councilmember Evan Glass introduced the Native Plant Protection Act that would ban the sale of invasive running bamboo while requiring 50% native Mid-Atlantic species in new construction landscaping — his bill is scheduled for a public hearing on July 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the County Council chambers. - ➤ Effective July 1, Gaithersburg will launch a new Residential Permit Parking program and update the Olde Towne Commercial Parking Pass program to improve parking availability and traffic management. Residents must apply for a new permit plus eligible businesses may register up to two vehicles under the updated process while current parking zones remain unchanged. The MoCo Show
