ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Fire & Rescue responded Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. to a fire at the historic Harewood Farmhouse near the 17600 block of Meeting House Road in Sandy Spring—75 firefighters worked to contain the blaze while a search confirmed the unoccupied home with significant damage estimated at over $300,000 and an accidental cause under investigation. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jason Hanif Rehman, 40, of Rockville was sentenced today to 14 years in prison after he used Snapchat to coerce a 15-year-old into sending explicit images and for engaging in sexual intercourse on two separate occasions during a weeks-long scheme. The MoCo Show
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Woodfield Elementary in Gaithersburg began in 1865 as a one-room Duvalls School that moved after fire damage in 1884 — closed in 1935 due to low enrollment and reopened in 1962 as the nation’s first all-electric school — and now educates over 300 students. The MoCo Show
- ➤ MCPS students earned national recognition at History Day when five teams competed from June 8 through 12 at the University of Maryland, College Park — nearly 3,000 students took part. Sligo Middle School students won a Special Prize for U.S. Women’s History as competitors presented projects in paper, performance, exhibit, website, and documentary categories. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools joined the Urban School Food Alliance—making it the second Maryland district in the group—to share best practices for its food program that serves nearly 160,000 students across 211 schools. The MoCo Show
