- ➤ WRAP will offer free Lyft rides up to $15 on July 4 to help prevent drunk driving in the D.C. area, including Gaithersburg, operating from 4:00 p.m. on July 4 to 4:00 a.m. on July 5 + a promo code will be posted at 3:00 p.m. on July 4 + the initiative aims to cut holiday traffic fatalities. - ➤ Gaithersburg SummerFest is scheduled for Saturday, June 28 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm and will feature live music from INFUSION, food trucks, local breweries, family activities and a fireworks display starting around 9:20 p.m.—an after party will follow once traffic clears. - ➤ Wegmans will open its ninth Maryland store tomorrow at 1590 Rockville Pike in the Twinbrook Quarter development; the 80,000 SF location, managed by Jamie Dominick and employing over 400 staff + a culinary team led by Executive Chef Joe Serock, will welcome customers by 9 a.m. while shoppers will have free parking for the first two hours among 672 spaces + eight charging stations. - ➤ Montgomery County Department of Transportation will implement sweeping changes to the Ride On bus system on Sunday, June 29—adding a zero fare policy on all Ride On, Ride On extRa, Ride On Flex and Flash buses. The agency will also adjust some routes, including revising Route 34 and introducing a new Route 40, to reduce wait times and improve access to jobs, schools and medical centers. - ➤ Montgomery County warns drivers that replacing small transmission parts may lead to expensive repairs—residents should ask for written estimates and consider a full rebuild to avoid further breakdowns. Montgomery Community Media
- ➤ Before the Montgomery County ban on gasoline leaf blowers takes effect on July 1, councilor Gabe Albornoz introduced a bill with a seasonal exemption that would allow commercial gardeners to use these tools from October to January for three years—concerns over high costs for electric models have driven the push. - ➤ Members of the Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition picketed Montgomery County’s Juneteenth celebration on Sunday as they passed out flyers urging a boycott—saying county officials ignore the desecration of Moses African Cemetery and treat black residents unfairly.
