U.S. News & World Report released its 2026-2027 Best Places to Live rankings for Maryland on July 3 at 10:12 a.m. Gaithersburg placed eighth (score: 5.5) among communities evaluated on value, quality of life, desirability, and job market strength.

The longtime owners of Starvin Marvin’s Pizzeria & Grille have permanently closed their Frederick restaurant, ending nearly 40 years in service while the independently owned Gaithersburg location (operated by longtime employees since 2012) remains open to serve the community.

21st Century Distributing acquired the 12,000 sqft building at 831 Russell Avenue (a former indoor play center) for $3.35 million and will establish an electronics distribution hub for its business.

The North Carolina firm expanded into Gaithersburg after the play center closed in April.

PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans will celebrate its Gaithersburg grand opening on Saturday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. at 18251 Flower Hill Way in North Pointe at Flower Hill; the first 25 customers win free coffee for a year, and free drinks run Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Niche released its 2026 Best Places to Live list featuring Montgomery County communities, with Kensington ranked first and South Kensington, North Bethesda, Bethesda and Four Corners following.

The ranking measures local schools, crime rates, housing trends and employment statistics.
