ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A car crashed into a home just before 2 a.m. Friday on the 400 block of University Boulevard West near Dennis Avenue—its impact sparked a gas-fed fire that displaced 14 people, led to the hospitalization of the driver, and saw 50 firefighters respond to contain the blaze. WTOP

- ➤ Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse has received a $2.5 million permit from the City of Rockville to start construction at the corner of Festival St. and Chapman Ave. The restaurant, known for its authentic Southern Brazilian churrasco, will expand into Maryland at Rockville’s Twinbrook Quarter—near the county’s newest Wegmans. - ➤ Construction is underway at North Pointe at Flower Hill, a 16,000-square-foot retail and restaurant center at 18251 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg that will offer new dining and service options. The developer said base building work will be finished in the next 30 days — Tropical Smoothie Cafe will open first, with PJ’s Coffee, Inspire Nail Bar & Spa and Plaza Mexico to follow. The MoCo Show
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Wes Moore said eligible Maryland households will get increased energy assistance benefits from the Office of Home Energy Programs starting Fiscal Year 2026 to help fight rising utility costs. Households that already receive SNAP, SSI, TANF or income based Veterans Affairs benefits will get higher electric benefits of $250—$1,000 and gas benefits of $300—$550 compared to last year’s ranges.
