- ➤ Rising Star Studio in Gaithersburg will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, July 12 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.—the event will include a ribbon-cutting with City Council members, demo sessions, guest performances including Sabor Latino, and a Social Dance Day Party. The MoCo Show
- ➤ On June 24, County Executive Marc Elrich and the Montgomery County Volunteer Center held the 14th Annual Montgomery Serves Awards at the Rosborough Theater in Gaithersburg to honor individuals and groups for outstanding service and volunteerism in 2024. The ceremony recognized awards such as the Roscoe R. Nix Distinguished Community Leadership Award to Christine Clark and Henry Hailstock, the Humanitarian Award to J. - ➤ Montgomery County police said an 80-year-old man allegedly killed his 78-year-old wife in a Saturday fight over an issue with his doctor in their Leisure World apartment—he is charged with first-degree murder. WTOP
- ➤ Jury selection began in the trial of FBI agent Eduardo Valdivia, who was cleared in a 2020 Metro train shooting but is now accused of raping three women at his Gaithersburg and Potomac tattoo parlors — his attorney says the encounters were consensual. WTOP

- ➤ In July 1999, The Blair Witch Project premiered and was mainly filmed in Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg—where filming wrapped in eight days on Halloween. Local groups now celebrate the film’s legacy with Blair Witch Heritage Hikes that guide visitors to key landmarks. The MoCo Show
