  • The 76th Annual Montgomery County Agricultural Fair will open on Friday, August 8 at 3 p.m. at the Agricultural Center and run through August 16, featuring Family Days on August 11 & 12, Monster Truck shows on August 13 & 14, a rodeo on August 15, and a demolition derby on August 16.  The MoCo Show

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two drivers died when a Chevrolet Cruz traveling the wrong way hit a Honda Accord on I-270 in Germantown early Sunday—state police said investigations are ongoing.  Montgomery Community Media

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 5 a 21 year old nonverbal man went missing in White Oak; 3rd District officers used live camera feeds from MCPD RTIC to track him to the Giant grocery store on Lockwood Drive at 3:55 p.m. and reunited him with his father in about seven minutes — a rapid rescue credited to swift police work.  The MoCo Show

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service faces a tough summer as firefighters battle high temperatures using air-conditioned vehicles and shorter shifts - a strategy to reduce heat exposure during fires. The county also enforces strict open burning rules that fine violators $500 per day to help prevent wildfires from spreading.  Montgomery Community Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Department of Transportation and Purple Line said road closures are planned for purple line construction work as crews install light rail tracks and repair sidewalks at key intersections. The Wayne Avenue and Fenton intersection will be closed from June 19 through August 21, East Wayne Avenue will operate as one-way, and the Ramsey Avenue and Bonifant intersection will close on or about July 10 through September 10—pedestrians can still use walkways.  The MoCo Show
