- ➤ Montgomery Parks will host a free event on July 26th at the Black Hill Discovery Center to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Disability Pride Month. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Detectives from Montgomery County police investigated a fatal pedestrian collision in Derwood on Monday, July 7 when 69-year-old Joan Debra Voith was struck by a brown 2017 Buick Envision while walking her dog. The MoCo Show
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Annabelle Jaffe, now 103, spent over 60 years with Montgomery County Public Schools including 47 years as a guidance counselor at Wheaton High before retiring in 2012 and returning as a substitute teacher out of her love for working with children. Born in Cincinnati, she set up a scholarship in honor of her husband and her son (Barry) and now enjoys life at The Ring House in Rockville. The MoCo Show
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents at a Montgomery County Council hearing urged officials to drop plans for a five-mile extension of highway M83, saying the road will harm the forest near Seneca Creek Watershed (a valued local natural area). County Transportation and Environment Committee members will review the proposal on July 21 (no funds have been allocated and some suggest boosting transit instead). Montgomery Community Media
- ➤ Montgomery County received 39 National Association of Counties Achievement Awards for innovative programs in health, safety, environment, and transportation—County Executive Marc Elrich praised county departments for their dedication to meeting community needs. The MoCo Show
- ➤ The Brink Rd. bridge will close for repairs over Seneca Creek starting Friday, July 25th at 6:00 a.m. and will remain closed for four days to complete paving, milling, and resurfacing work + MCDOT advises drivers to use alternate routes during the closure. The MoCo Show
