  • Eater DC’s Summer 2025 '38 Essential Restaurants Around DC' list named five Maryland restaurants for their distinct menus, including 2Fifty Texas BBQ (Riverdale Park) and four in Montgomery County (Aventino in Bethesda, Cielo Rojo in Takoma Park, J. Hollinger’s Waterman’s Chophouse in Silver Spring, and Melina in North Bethesda).  The MoCo Show

CRIME NEWS

  • Montgomery County Police warned on social media yesterday about fake agents who scammed immigrants by demanding fees for work permits or visas — they urged residents to verify credentials before making any payments.  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • Anna Wilson, a Gaithersburg native and Gaithersburg High School 2022 graduate, will appear on America’s Got Talent on Tuesday, July 15 at 8 p.m. Her mother secretly signed her up for the audition—leading to a surprise twist during her performance as she continues her musical journey after studying at Duquesne University.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Department of Transportation received eight 2025 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties for programs in civic education, county resiliency, criminal justice and public safety, information technology, and transportation. MCDOT said the awards honor innovative projects like real-time bus displays, school zone safety alerts via Waze, and digital timesheets for parking services—boosting transit and safety for over 1 million residents.  The MoCo Show
  • The Gaithersburg City Council approved the Gateway Lakeforest Zoning Map Amendment Z-9928-2024 on July 7 for a mixed-use redevelopment at the corner of North Frederick Ave and Lakeforest Blvd—an 8-story multi-family building with up to 410 units and ground floor commercial space will be built. Developer 417 Development LLC, which originally acquired the parcels from the Lakeforest Mall development, said the plan also offers a 21,000 SF lease opportunity and will keep the existing office at 702 Russell Ave with minor improvements.  The MoCo Show
  • Maryland offers a six-year emissions test exemption for original owners of 2019 and newer vehicles—those who bought a used vehicle must comply with the two-year testing cycle. Residents can check vehicle test due dates by logging into myMVA Online Services.  The MoCo Show
  • The Montgomery County Board of Education will dedicate its board room at 15 W. Gude Drive on July 23 at 5:00 p.m. in honor of late Patricia O’Neill, who served 23 years and held leadership roles in MCPS—attendees include board members, family, and colleagues.  The MoCo Show

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Officials found that nine units at Hillside Senior Apartment Homes on Skidmore Boulevard lacked air conditioning during extreme heat with eight units receiving temporary cooling; the owner has until July 18 to install permanent units and will complete full repairs by mid next week — county and city officials will keep monitoring compliance.  Montgomery Community Media
