Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police — Special Victims Investigations Division are asking the public to help locate missing 15-year-old Leslee Yvonne Ortiz Reyes, who was last seen July 14 at approximately 12:15 a.m. on the 900 block of Northampton Drive in Silver Spring; she is 4-foot-5 with black hair, brown eyes, and was wearing a black hoodie, dark green plaid pajama pants, white and black Converse sneakers, a gray backpack, and glasses.
The International Association of Firefighters Local 1664 endorsed Councilmember Andrew Friedson for Montgomery County Executive, making it the first labor endorsement in the 2026 race.
Friedson said he will stand with first responders to make sure they have the resources they need as his campaign builds support among county workers and community leaders.
The Maryland Department of Transportation announced that construction has begun on a $15 million project to add pedestrian, bicycle and multi-modal safety features along nearly 2.5 miles of MD 650 from University Boulevard to Powder Mill Road—new work that includes crosswalks, ADA ramps and lighting upgrades. Officials said the work will be completed in fall and is expected to reduce crashes along this busy corridor.
