- ➤ Gaithersburg native Anna Wilson auditioned on America's Got Talent on Tuesday on NBC when her mother (who secretly signed her up) revealed that Anna thought she was there for a VIP experience before an unexpected twist occurred during her performance. She is a 2022 Gaithersburg High School graduate now studying at Duquesne University's School of Music as she continues her musical career. The MoCo Show
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a vehicle fire near 700 S. Frederick Avenue at Westland Drive in Gaithersburg on Wednesday morning — the incident closed northbound Route 355 with some lanes blocked — and no injuries were reported. The MoCo Show
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County homeowners reported that their home improvement work was left unfinished, which led to a state investigation and a multimillion-dollar judgment against Optimum Construction, Optimum Interiors and owner Amr “Omar” Elrahimy — officials urge residents with similar issues to contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kian Dhawan from Montgomery Blair High School earned a gold medal at the USA Biolympiad National Finals held at Harvard University, and he will join three other gold medalists to represent the United States at the International Biology Olympiad in Quezon City, Philippines from July 20—27; he is also conducting cancer biology research at the University of Maryland this summer. - ➤ On Wednesday, Governor Wes Moore joined AeroVironment to celebrate the opening of its $12.5M defense research and manufacturing facility in Germantown, which is expected to create over 200 high tech jobs plus benefit Maryland’s aerospace and defense industry with support from state and county programs. - ➤ Today at 9:30 a.m., the Montgomery County Council’s Education and Culture Committee will receive a briefing on MCPS academic performance metrics and revised grading policies for the new school year. The Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee will also meet at 9:30 a.m. today to review bills on internet access service procurement and retirement eligibility+ County officials expect these measures to address current challenges and set new operational guidelines+. - ➤ Montgomery County DHHS is offering free back-to-school vaccinations for children in pre-kindergarten through 12 who are missing required shots to attend school. Appointments—covering Tdap, meningococcal, HPV and chickenpox vaccines—can be scheduled at several county clinics in Silver Spring, Germantown and Rockville until the end of September. The MoCo Show
