  • Air conditioning now works in nine units at Hillside Senior Apartments as the City of Gaithersburg and County Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles enforced county code requirements—temporary units were provided to eight apartments after one resident declined the offer, ensuring seniors no longer face excessive summer heat.  Montgomery Community Media

  • Royal Cut Kings has opened Tapers & Tequila, a new barbershop, bar & lounge at 16821 Crabbs Branch Way in the Derwood/Gaithersburg/Rockville area. The grand opening event will be held on Saturday, August 9th from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will feature live grooming demonstrations, signature tequila cocktails & live entertainment.  The MoCo Show

CRIME NEWS

  • Montgomery County Police arrested 44-year-old Nicholas Lloyd from Germantown after he allegedly shot three people in a dispute outside his home on Shadyside Way on July 16 — he now faces multiple charges including attempted murder and assault while being held without bond.  The MoCo Show
  • After several consumer complaints, Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection launched an investigation into Amr “Omar” Elrahimy’s home improvement practices that involved nearly 5,000 consumer law violations—prompting a search for over $4 million in restitution.  Montgomery Community Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery College—in partnership with MCPS—will host its free Montgomery Can Code summer camp for middle school students from July 21 to 25, where they will learn app development using Apple's Swift programming language and use provided iPads for hands-on practice.   • Montgomery County Council reviewed changes to the MCPS grading system that will start next school year, aiming to replace letter grades with specific percentages and set a minimum 50% on assignments that show effort.
