BUSINESS NEWS

  • Montgomery County-based Steeze Burger, known as the best burger in the DC area, joined with Leon’s Smashburgers for two Maryland pop-ups—one held on Friday at Westside in Derwood and the other scheduled for today at 1 p.m. at Two Story Chimney on 7115 Damascus Rd.—to serve double-only burgers that use tasty toppings and crisp, smashed patties.  The MoCo Show

CRIME NEWS

  • Montgomery County Fire and Rescue apologized on Friday after a fire hose sprayed water on the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts’ field at Montgomery Blair High School when a baseball hit a pickup truck and spurred a retaliatory act—Maryland National Capital Police are now investigating the incident.  WTOP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Construction of an 11,972-square-foot preschool and daycare center by The Learning Experience began at 9963 Stedwick Road in Montgomery Village — located within the Montgomery Village Marketplace — and is valued at $2.87 million. The facility will offer early childhood education to infants through kindergarteners with hands-on, STEM-based learning.  The MoCo Show

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Maryland is the only state with no natural lakes because glaciers never shaped the land and all so-called lakes, like Deep Creek Lake and Loch Raven Reservoir, are built by humans (Buckel’s Bog was a natural lake that dried up long ago). Geologists explain that this lack of glacial activity is why Maryland’s water bodies are all man-made.  The MoCo Show
