Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection will host a free Fix-It Clinic on Saturday, Aug.

8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gaithersburg Library (18330 Montgomery Village Ave) where residents can repair household items and visit a family tinker table; registration is required.

Kareem’s Lebanese Kitchen is preparing to open its first Washington metropolitan area location at 212 Boardwalk Place in Rio.

Targeting an August debut, the restaurant (currently finishing construction and hiring staff) will serve a menu of authentic Lebanese dishes inspired by Chef Rachid’s heritage.

Three Montgomery County Public Schools students (Genevieve Bulles, Abhisneha Jones, and Giulla Concepcion) received $120,000 scholarships each to Midland University after placing in the Top 5 at the National American Miss pageant held July 9–12.

Maryland’s 24 public school systems met the July 1 deadline to raise starting teacher salaries to $60,000 under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future plan, although some districts reduced staff to balance budgets.
