Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 27th of July.
Good morning, Gaithersburg.
After decades in public service and youth sports coaching, Asif 'Trey' Rahman was laid off earlier this year and turned his weekend cooking hobby into a family-run catering business called The Burger Coach—serving events across Montgomery County and donating part of its earnings to youth sports and nonprofits. He now merges his passion for coaching with a new love for food to give back to the community.
ISAAC’s Poultry Market earned another honor when Chowhound named its Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich the best chicken sandwich in Maryland.
The restaurant opened its first location in Gaithersburg in February 2022 (by owner Rob Gresham) and began serving a second site in Burtonsville earlier this year.
Shady Grove Medical Center is naming its new cardiovascular and interventional radiology lab after Laurence and Fern Bensignor after Laurence received life-saving heart care, and their donation will help complete a 150352 square foot patient tower under construction set to open in 2026. The lab will feature three procedure rooms for emergency heart attack and stroke treatments.
Capital Women’s Care said its contract with UnitedHealthcare will expire on August 1—almost one week from today—and tens of thousands of women in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. who rely on its OB/GYN services may face disruptions if a new agreement is not reached. Without a new deal, over 250 providers will become out-of-network for UnitedHealthcare members, which could lead to higher costs for care.
Grilled Oyster Co in Gaithersburg serves a $26 Oyster & Caviar appetizer that local Mr. MoCo called the best oyster dish in Maryland (it features six shucked oysters with crème fraiche and caviar).
The dish stands out after years of statewide tasting (many local spots were part of the review).
