- ➤ Kalyan Hospitality acquired SpringHill Suites by Marriott Gaithersburg for $6.5 million yesterday at 9715 Washingtonian Blvd, where the 162-room hotel is near major employers and popular attractions—its team said it will focus on operational enhancements and team development to uphold Marriott standards. - ➤ X-energy, an advanced nuclear reactor and fuel company — founded in Maryland — will consolidate its headquarters into a 125,000-square-foot facility on Washingtonian Boulevard in Gaithersburg and add 525 new jobs over six years. - ➤ Grammy-winning band Hootie and the Blowfish has deep ties to Montgomery County as two founding members went to Seneca Valley High School and part of their hit video was filmed in Poolesville—linking the band to our local history. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the County Council voted 10-1 to remove the northern extension of Midcounty Highway from Montgomery Village Avenue to Ridge Road in Clarksburg while keeping the southern section and scheduling a study to assess transit needs from Clarksburg to Germantown. - ➤ On July 29, Montgomery County Council approved an update to the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways that removes the northern portion of M-83 and calls for a study of travel needs along the Clarksburg to Montgomery Village corridor—this update follows requirements from bills passed in 2022 and retains the southern section until a detailed feasibility study is completed. - ➤ Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services awarded $1.3 million in grants funded by JUUL and Altria settlements to three local organizations—Elite Soccer Youth Development Academy, Identity, Inc., and Tree of Hope Association, Inc.—to support peer-led programs addressing youth mental health and substance use in affected communities.
