- ➤ On Sunday, Selva Jayaraman, whose 12-year-old son was rescued from a flash flood at the Bradley Blvd—Mercy Hollow Ln intersection in Bethesda, donated $10,000 to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services as a token of his family's gratitude. The MoCo Show

- ➤ AH’HAAN, a full-service Thai restaurant in Gaithersburg, will hold its grand opening on Sunday, August 17th at 237 Kentlands Blvd—taking over the space formerly occupied by Good Fortune Cafe. The restaurant is owned by the team behind Bangkok Garden, which served Bethesda for 37 years and currently operates a Rockville location—aiming to reintroduce popular dishes from its predecessor. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the fatal stabbing of Jonathan Simmons-Miller— a Gaithersburg man wounded on July 30 at about 12:20 a.m. on V Street NW and later pronounced dead at a local hospital— and is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for tips leading to an arrest and conviction. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MCPS proposed a six-region magnet school model that ends the countywide high school choice process to reduce transportation costs and promote fairness; Gaithersburg is part of region five (with Magruder, Damascus, Watkins Mill, and Crown) and final recommendations will be released by January with changes starting in fall. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Little League teams from the D.C. area played in the Mid-Atlantic Regional games in Bristol, Connecticut, on Sunday and aimed for a spot in the Little League World Series in Williamsport. Capitol Hill Little League led much of the game but lost 8-7 to a Delaware team—Montgomery’s Wolfpack lost 7-2 to a Uwchlan Township team and will play Monday afternoon as winners advance on Tuesday.
