- ➤ The long-awaited Play Street Museum will open its doors Wednesday, August 13 at 227 Kentlands Blvd in Gaithersburg, taking over the space formerly occupied by Hallmark—offering indoor play sessions for children from age 0 to 7 during the week and hosting birthday parties on weekends. - ➤ Glenmont Local Park will soon feature a new mural on its Park Activity building and Montgomery Parks is asking residents to vote for their favorite design—four finalists were chosen from 26 submissions. Votes can be cast online or in person until Aug. 24 and the winning artist will receive $30,000 with the mural completed by November. Montgomery Community Media

- ➤ Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police, Special Victims Investigations Division, are asking the public to help locate missing 14-year-old Persia Lopez who was last seen on Monday, August 4th at 1:00 p.m. in the 12600 block of Gravenhurst Lane in Gaithersburg wearing a light blue t-shirt, blue Cookie Monster pajama pants and possibly carrying a black backpack; anyone with information is asked to call the Montgomery County Police Non-Emergency (301 279-8000). - ➤ Montgomery County Police said they arrested a suspect in the 1995 killing of DC police officer Denna Fredericka Campbell nearly 30 years after her body was discovered in her Maryland home — officials will hold a news conference later today in Gaithersburg to share more details. WTOP

- ➤ MCDOT warns residents that spotted lanternfly numbers will grow over the next three to five years and may reach levels similar to past cicada emergences. Officials say the insects do not harm people+ pets so residents should inspect vehicles and remove egg masses to help slow their spread. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Governor Wes Moore announced on Tuesday that six pilot projects will test a streamlined permitting process aimed at boosting economic growth and creating jobs. The projects cover diverse developments in Cecil, Montgomery, Baltimore, Frederick, and Wicomico Counties—mixed-use redevelopments, agritourism expansions, and more—with interagency teams set to meet monthly during the pilot phase.
